This policy explains what the Sortd iPhone app ("Sortd") does with your information. Sortd is made by Kameshraj Gnanaprakasam ("we").

What Sortd stores, and where

Everything Sortd stores is kept on your iPhone, inside the app's own storage:

• Purchases — merchant, amount, currency, date, category, card, and any note you add. These are kept in an on-device database (Apple's SwiftData).
• Cards — the name you give each card and its last 4 digits. Sortd never asks for or stores full card numbers, and never asks for bank logins or passwords.
• Settings — such as your home currency, budgets, and the categories Sortd has learned from your changes.
• Exchange rates — daily rates Sortd has downloaded, so it doesn't fetch them again.
• Connected Gmail addresses — the address and when it last synced, if you connect Gmail.

We don't run a server, so none of this is sent to us. If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, Sortd's data is included in that backup like other app data, under Apple's terms.

Logging Apple Pay taps

Sortd does not read your Apple Wallet by itself. If you choose, you create an automation in Apple's Shortcuts app on your iPhone. When you pay with Apple Pay, that automation passes the transaction (merchant, amount and card name) to Sortd's "Log Wallet Tap" or "Log Purchase" action. This happens on your iPhone. Sortd keeps a copy of the last tap it received, on your iPhone, so you can check the setup. You can turn the automation off or delete it in the Shortcuts app at any time.

Card digits: you can give Sortd the last 4 digits of each card and of its Apple Pay number (the Device Account Number). Sortd uses them only to match purchases to the right card. They stay on your iPhone. Sortd never asks for or stores a full card number.

Receipt scanning (optional)

If you tap "Scan Receipt", Sortd asks for camera access, or lets you pick one photo. It reads the text on the receipt on your iPhone using Apple's built-in text recognition and, on iPhones with Apple Intelligence, Apple's on-device model. The photo is not saved by Sortd and is not sent anywhere. Sortd keeps only what you confirm on the review screen: the shop, amount, currency, date and category. On iPhones without Apple Intelligence, the text is read with simple rules instead.

Gmail (optional)

If you tap "Connect Gmail", you sign in to Google in Apple's secure sign-in window. Sortd never sees your Google password.

• What Sortd asks Google for: read-only Gmail access (gmail.readonly), plus your email address so Sortd can show which account is connected. Sortd cannot send, delete, move or change your email.
• What it reads: Sortd searches only for receipts and bank alerts (for example, emails Gmail files under Purchases, or with subjects like "receipt", "invoice" or "order confirmation"). The first sync looks back 120 days. Other email is not opened.
• Where it reads them: on your iPhone. Emails go straight from Google's Gmail API to your iPhone. Nothing is sent anywhere else, and no copy is kept on any server.
• What it keeps: the purchase details it finds (merchant, amount, currency, date, and the card's last 4 digits if the email shows them) and each email's ID, so it doesn't read the same email twice. It does not keep a copy of the emails.
• On-device Apple Intelligence: on iPhones that have Apple Intelligence turned on, Sortd may use Apple's on-device model to read the text of a receipt from a sender it doesn't have a built-in rule for. This runs on your iPhone.
• Your Google sign-in key: the key that lets Sortd keep reading your receipts (a Google refresh token) is kept in the iPhone Keychain, not in the app's files. Short-lived access keys are only kept in memory while the app runs.
• No other use: Gmail data is used only to add your purchases to Sortd. It is not used for ads, not sold, not shared, and not read by any person at Kameshraj Gnanaprakasam.

Sortd's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Disconnecting: in Sortd, go to Settings › Email Receipts and tap the account, then Disconnect. Sortd asks Google to cancel its access and deletes the key from the Keychain. You can also choose to delete the purchases that only that Gmail account added. You can also remove Sortd's access from your Google Account's security settings at any time.

Exchange rates

To convert purchases in other currencies, Sortd downloads daily exchange rates from frankfurter.dev, a free public service. The request contains only currency codes and a start date — nothing about you or your purchases. Like any website, that service can see your device's internet address when the request is made.

Reminders

If you turn on payment reminders, Sortd schedules notifications on your iPhone the day before a repeat payment is expected. These are local notifications created by the app on your iPhone. No notification service or server is involved.

Services Sortd talks to

Sortd only connects to:

• Google (sign-in and the Gmail API) — only if you connect Gmail.
• frankfurter.dev — for exchange rates, as described above.

Sortd has no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising or tracking tools built in.

Your controls

• Export: Settings › Your Data › Export Purchases (CSV) gives you every purchase as a spreadsheet file.
• Delete: Settings › Your Data › Delete All Data removes every purchase, card, budget and setting from your iPhone, disconnects any Gmail accounts (and asks Google to cancel access), and removes scheduled reminders. This can't be undone.
• Delete the app: deleting Sortd from your iPhone removes the data in its storage. If you connected Gmail, disconnect it first (or use Delete All Data), or remove Sortd from your Google Account's security settings, so Google's access is cancelled too.

Because we don't hold any of your data, we can't see, change or delete it for you. You are in control of it on your iPhone.

Children

Sortd is a budgeting tool for adults and isn't aimed at children. It doesn't collect personal information from anyone, children included.
