How do I log Apple Pay taps automatically?

You set up one automation in Apple's Shortcuts app. It takes about two minutes, and Sortd's setup shows a picture of every step. You can also find it later in Settings › Apple Pay Auto-Logging.

iOS 27

  1. Open Shortcuts and tap + at the bottom. On the next screen tap Edit at the top right.
  2. Tap the blue Automation chip under the search box, type wallet, then tap Wallet ("When I tap a Wallet Card or Pass"). The shortcut now starts with "When Any Card is tapped".
  3. In the search box at the bottom, type Sortd and tap Log Wallet Tap.
  4. Tap the grey word Transaction, tap Select Variable above the keyboard, then tap the blue Transaction just under "When Any Card is tapped".
  5. Tap back to save. That's it.

iOS 26

  1. Open Shortcuts, go to the Automation tab and tap +.
  2. Choose Wallet, pick every card you pay with, choose Run Immediately, then Next.
  3. Choose Create New Shortcut, search for Sortd and add Log Wallet Tap.
  4. Tap Transaction and pick Shortcut Input above the keyboard. Tap Done.

Pressing ▶ in Shortcuts is only a test: it has no purchase in it, so Sortd replies "connected" and saves nothing. Pay with Apple Pay in a shop to log a real one. Only in-store taps trigger the automation. Online and in-app purchases come in from email receipts if you connect Gmail.

A tap shows the wrong shop, amount or card

Open Settings › Apple Pay Auto-Logging in Sortd. Under Last Tap Received you'll see exactly what Apple Pay sent. If Apple Pay sent no amount, Sortd still saves the purchase and marks it so you can add the amount.

How do I connect Gmail?

Gmail is optional. In Sortd, go to Settings › Email Receipts › Connect Gmail, read the short explanation, and tap "Continue with Google". Sign in and allow Sortd to read your email. Sortd can only read; it can't send, delete or change anything.

Sortd then searches for receipts and bank alerts from the last 120 days and adds them. After that it checks for new ones when you open the app, or when you tap Sync Now.

Google says the app isn't verified

While Sortd is being reviewed by Google, Google shows a warning that the app hasn't been verified. During this testing period:

Why was a receipt missed?

You can always add a purchase by hand.

Which last 4 digits should I enter for a card?

Sortd matches purchases to your cards by their last 4 digits. A card can have two numbers:

If you have two cards from the same bank, Sortd asks for the Apple Pay number of each, because that's the only way to tell them apart when you tap. Sortd only ever asks for the last 4 digits, never the full number.

How do currencies work?

Converted amounts are estimates. Your bank's rate and fees may differ.

How do I delete my data?

Your data is only on your iPhone, so we can't delete it for you, and we can't restore it after you delete it.
