About Sortd
What is Sortd?
Sortd is a free spending tracker for iPhone. It logs Apple Pay purchases by itself through one Shortcuts automation, reads paper receipts with the camera and imports bank statements. It finds your subscriptions, keeps a monthly budget and converts 30+ currencies. There is no bank login, no ads, and your purchases stay on your iPhone.
Who makes Sortd?
Sortd is made by Raj and the Sortd team, based in Australia and Singapore. You can reach them at support@sortd.page, and a person reads every message.
How much does Sortd cost?
Nothing. Every feature is free, including Apple Pay logging, the receipt camera, statement import, Insights, subscriptions and bills, and budgets. There is no subscription, no trial and no ads.
Is Sortd on the App Store?
Not yet. The beta is open now on Apple's TestFlight. Sign up at sortd.page/beta and the form takes you straight to TestFlight to install it.
Which devices does Sortd work on?
iPhone, on iOS 26 or later. There is no iPad, Mac or Android app. Logging Apple Pay payments in apps and on websites needs iOS 27. Reading receipts with on-device AI needs an iPhone with Apple Intelligence; other iPhones use simpler rules.
Choosing a spending tracker
What is a good free spending tracker for iPhone?
If you pay mostly with Apple Pay and don't want to link your bank, Sortd is a good fit: it is free, logs Apple Pay purchases by itself, finds subscriptions, keeps a monthly budget and keeps your purchases on your iPhone. If you want live sync with every bank account, envelope budgeting or an Android app, a bank-linked app such as YNAB, Monarch or Copilot Money suits you better; those charge a subscription.
Is there a budget app that doesn't need my bank login?
Yes. Sortd never asks for your bank login. Purchases come from Apple Pay, receipt photos, bank statements you import (CSV, PDF or a screenshot of your bank app) and anything you add yourself. It has a monthly budget with optional category limits, and it is free.
How is Sortd different from YNAB, Monarch or Copilot Money?
Those apps connect to your bank through data companies such as Plaid, Finicity and MX, and charge a subscription. Sortd doesn't connect to your bank and is free. It builds your list from Apple Pay, receipts and statements, on your iPhone. The trade-off: a bank-linked app sees every account by itself, while Sortd needs a statement import for payments outside Apple Pay, like direct debits and transfers. Sortd is iPhone only.
Does Sortd work with my bank and in my country?
Yes. Sortd works with any bank and any card you've added to Apple Pay, in any country. Setup lists banks in Singapore, Australia and India, plus Wise, Revolut and American Express; any other bank is added as Other bank and works the same way. For payments in apps and on websites, some banks only send a notification if you turn on purchase alerts in their app.
Apple Pay
Can an app track my Apple Pay purchases automatically?
Yes. Apple's Shortcuts app has a Wallet automation that runs each time you tap a card. Sortd uses it: you set it up once, and after that every tap in a shop is logged with the shop, amount and card, even when Sortd is closed. On iOS 27 or later, payments in apps and on websites are logged too, from Wallet's notification or your bank's app.
Where can I see my Apple Pay history on iPhone?
Open Wallet and tap a card to see its latest transactions. It shows one card at a time, and how much it shows depends on your bank. For one list across all your cards, with categories and totals, use a spending tracker such as Sortd.
Does Sortd work with Apple Card?
Yes. It works with any card in Apple Wallet, including Apple Card.
Does Sortd work with Google Pay or Samsung Pay?
No. Sortd is an iPhone app and logs Apple Pay automatically. Payments made any other way can come in from a bank statement import, a receipt photo or by hand.
Why didn't Sortd log a purchase?
Apple's Wallet trigger sometimes misses a payment, most often at vending machines, transport gates and parking, or when the bank is slow to confirm the tap. Payments in apps and on websites need iOS 27 or later and a notification from Wallet or your bank's app. Cash, and cards that aren't in Apple Pay, are never seen. You can add the purchase by hand, scan the receipt or import a statement.
Budgets and subscriptions
Can I plan a monthly budget in Sortd?
Yes. Set one number for the month and Sortd shows what's left and what you can spend each day, after the bills that haven't charged yet. You can add limits for categories like eating out, and budget pace tells you which day you'd pass your budget at the rate you're going. A widget shows your budget, and you can ask Siri how much is left.
How does Sortd find my subscriptions?
It looks for payments that repeat, weekly, monthly or yearly, in your Apple Pay purchases and imported statements. It shows what's due in the next 30 days and what they cost you a month. Import a year of statements to catch yearly ones.
Can Sortd remind me before a subscription charges?
Yes. Turn on reminders and Sortd tells you the day before a subscription or bill charges you.
Privacy and data
Is Sortd safe to use?
Sortd never asks for your bank login or password, and it only keeps the last 4 digits of a card. Your purchases stay on your iPhone, and Sortd can't see them. If you turn on iCloud backup, the copy is encrypted on your iPhone before it goes to your own iCloud. There are no ads, Sortd doesn't read your email, and you can lock the app with Face ID. Usage counts and crash reports never include what you bought, and you can turn them off in Settings.
Does Sortd sell my data?
No. Your purchases stay on your iPhone and Sortd never sees them, so there is nothing to sell. Sortd has no ads and no advertising partners. It only counts which features get used, never what you spend, and you can turn that off.
Does Sortd read my email?
No. Sortd doesn't read your email and never asks to. Signing in with Google, which is optional, only tells Sortd who you are.
Do I need an account?
No. Every feature works without one. You can sign in with Apple or Google if you want.
Can I export or delete my data?
Yes. Settings › Backup & Data lets you export every purchase as a spreadsheet, save a backup file, or delete everything. Deleting can't be undone.
Everyday use
Can Sortd track cash?
Yes, by hand or by scanning the receipt with the camera. Cash is never logged by itself, because it doesn't go through Apple Pay.
Does Sortd work when I travel or use more than one currency?
Yes. Each purchase keeps its own currency and is converted to your home currency at that day's European Central Bank rate. It covers 30+ currencies, and cards from different countries each get their own page.
Does Sortd have widgets and Siri?
Yes. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets show your budget, today's spending, recent purchases and what's about to charge you. You can ask Siri how much you've spent this week, how much budget is left, what bills are coming up and your last purchase.
